Met up with a friend here who was visiting the Twin Cities and really craving Jamaican food. I had never really had Jamaican food much before, but I was really excited to see what this place had to offer. We decided to go for a family style approach so we ordered the curry goat along with the jerk chicken and chose fried plantains and rices with peas as our two sides (each entree gets a side). This was my first time ever eating goat and it was life-changing. The meat was cooked in like a stew and it was so tender it was basically falling off the bone. It reminded me very closely of lamb, but this was just cooked and seasoned to perfection. A must order in my book. It does have some kick so be expecting that, but not a level to be alarmed or worried about. The jerk chicken was also incredible, I feel this is the one dish I always think of when I think of Jamaican food. They bring the chicken out on a sizzling hot plate with the sauce covering the grilled pieces of meat and it was also delicious. Once again, a must order. As for the sides, the rice and peas were pretty good and went well with the curry, but eaten on its own I'd say was good rice but nothing particularly mind blowing or anything like that. Conversely, the fried plantains were absolutely PERFECT. Plantains when cooked right are sweet but not in an overpowering way and are one of my favorite foods. Irie Vybz nailed these plantains, I mean they were to die for. You have to have to have to get these if you come! The actual store itself is a bit dingy so I would say come in expecting that, but the food is just incredible. Definitely will be coming back here when I crave Jamaican food again. Great spot in the Twin Cities.
I misewell tell ya, dis the spot. The jerk chicken was the real deal for sure. Unlike other Jamaican places in MN, they actually grill the meat!!! Also the fried snapper in the escovitch sauce is to die for! Overall they're legit and tbh if you don't secure your spot by going at a reasonable time, everything will be gone! -A true West Indian
Amazing! The best authentic Jamaican food around! I had the jerk chicken platter with rice and peas and plantain, the first time. I was hooked! So Flippin good I couldn't wait to take the picture of my plate. The owners are a cute and super friendly and welcoming young couple from the island. This is a place for everyone and anyone! You won't be sorry you went. They have take-out, dine in, and delivery. My husband told me he's craving the chicken again today. I already know what I'm getting ..Oxtail! You heard me, OXTAIL! See you there diners!
Jamaican jerk for Minnesota nice! Vibrant dining in Brooklyn Center. My Father and I came for lunch. The service was on "Carribean Time." It took about 10 minutes for the server to take our order and another 20 for our entrees to arrive. But it was worth the wait! The Jerk Chicken was charred, tangy, and had a bit of bite. Neither too dry nor too moist. Tender. Yah man! The side if rice and peas was perfect--flavorful, wet, and filling. The fried plantains were like candy. *Almost* five stars! The interior is not squeaky clean, but is colorful and laid back. The authentic food brings it all together!
This place is a hidden gem. It's tucked away and hard to see if not looking for it. We ate outside. The jerk chicken was perfectly done with a side of yummy plantains. The brown gravy chicken with a side of white rice was perfectly spiced. The wings with buffalo sauce were spicy but tasty and had a nice crisp. We also tried a Jamaican beef patty which was good but a little greasy. Lastly we tried the rum punch which transported us to the island. I highly recommend!
